SAN GUILLERMO PARISH CHURCH

San Guillermo Church is situated in Cabambangan, Bacolor Pampanga and is one of the most famous churches in Pampanga. After the volcanic eruption of Mt. Pinatubo in 1992 the cities and towns of Pampanga were covered and buried under volcanic ash or what locals call lahar. The town of Cambambangan was not spared. Thus, it lead to half of its church being buried under the lahar.

The San Guillermo Church continues to stand and be a refuge to its people. Even if the half of the church was buried the people still found a way to fix it and make it functional. Now the church is frequently visited by tourist and students from different schools to show what the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo can do or has done to the land but also shows how the town and its people have risen from the great devastation. It has also become even more famous for its constant appearance in local television shows and movies. One of the most popular is the local television show May Bukas Pa by ABS-CBN where the young boy Santino became famous for. It has also been seen in other local television shows such as Sugo by GMA. The church for me is a constant reminder of the strength of the Filipino people. Even after great loss the Filipino people still continue to rise again.

Last year, the destruction caused by typhoon Yolanda has destroyed and taken the lives of people in the Visayas region. And it has caused a great heartache to the Philippines. We can look at the San Guillermo Church and the province of Pampanga as an example of how, after the destruction caused by Mother Nature, we can still rise again from the ashes.

Below are more pictures of the exterior and interior of the church.

Here are just some of the exterior and interior shots of the Church. After visiting the church you may want to check out  Joy's/ Edna's Gotohan to grab a bite to eat and get a taste of home-cooked meals by the locals. If you're lucky enought to catch it open, it's located just across the street in front of the church.
