PAROLS
Every Christmas houses, streets and buildings are scattered with colorful, bright lanterns or what locals call parols. Pampanga has been known to produce some of the best lanterns in the Philippines and it comes as no suprise since it is also the home of the Giant Lantern Festival which is held every year in the capital, in San Fernando City.
The Kapampangans have mastered the craft of making lanterns, so much so that they are able to create such huge, magnificent masterpieces. Bringing together community, each town and city is able to masterfully create 20 feet structures of wires, lights, and other materials to create the spectacular Giant Lanterns that we see every year. In the recently concluded Giant Lantern Festival the town of Telabastagan were crowned as champion over all the others. With all the geniusly executed light show you'd be having a hard time deciding who would win, I know I did.
Here you can see a craftsman at work finishing up one of the many lanterns that they produce. Along the main highway in San Fernando City you won't miss the colorful display of lights from the different vendors of the colorful lanterns. Drop by and check them out for yourselves whenever the Christmas season rolls by.
